Jungen Joint operates from the front terrace of the Dharmajungen family home on Gang Kelinci in Pasar Baru, run by Dewi Kurniawati and her son Juan since 2022 in memory of photographer Nico Dharmajungen. There is no proper signage, just a white gate and a handful of seats, including a retro sofa.
The patties are seasoned with Middle Eastern spices, giving a warm, cumin-led flavour. Start with the Jungen Signature: brioche bun, signature patty, cheddar, pickles, caramelised onions and Ibu Dewi's Thousand Island-style sauce. The Jungen+ doubles the beef, and The Franck adds a fried egg, onion ring and beef bacon. Potato wedges with house barbecue sauce and an ice-cold root beer complete the order.
Only around 30 burgers are made each day, so arrive at the 11am opening from Wednesday to Sunday and expect to queue. Best for a solo or small-group lunch combined with a wander around old Pasar Baru.
